Naraka Chaturdasi

Naraka Chaturdashi is a Hindu festival, which falls on Chaturdashi (the 14th day) of the Krishna Paksha in the Shalivahan Shak of the Hindu calendar month of Kartika Masa. This festival is also calling as Choti Diwali, Kali Chaudas, Narak Chaudas, Roop Chaudas, Narak Nivaran Chaturdashi, or Bhoot Chaturdashi). It is the second day of the five-day-long festival of Deepavali/ Diwali. The Hindu literature narrates that the “Asura” (demon) “Narakasura” was killed on this day by Krishna and Satyabhama. The day is celebrated by early morning religious rituals and festivities follow.

This festival has some simple to mysterious rituals, varying from region to region; but most of the rituals are followed after early morning oil baths, decoration of the place of worship, and offering Naivedya (Prasada), followed by Puja. Narak Chaturdashi marks the beginning of Deepavali.
